SRH Stumble to 120, Sehwag Strikes with Savage Punjab Comparison

Sunrisers Hyderabad's aggressive strategy of "go big or go home" has not yielded positive results in the initial phase of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Following a win in their season opener, SRH suffered two consecutive defeats, with their renowned batting lineup collapsing for a mere 120 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, leading to an 80-run loss. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag expressed his bewilderment at SRH's low score, especially considering the pitch did not offer significant assistance to the bowlers and the team has depth in batting.
Sehwag, who has previously played and coached for the Punjab Kings, humorously noted that SRH seems to have adopted the same tendency for batting collapses that plagued his former team this season. “Punjab used to hinder their own progress, and now it appears that Hyderabad has inherited that trait. They scored 190 and lost, then managed around 160 and lost again, and today they failed to chase down 200,” Sehwag remarked on Cricbuzz.
He further pointed out that neither the Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling attack nor the pitch conditions were particularly challenging. KKR batted first and posted a score of 200, and Sehwag observed that the ball was not turning and there was minimal assistance for the bowlers. “The pitch was slightly slow, and the bowlers primarily delivered slower balls, but players can adapt to that if they settle in at the crease,” he explained.
Sehwag cautioned that SRH must be careful not to tarnish the unique reputation they have established. Last season, the team set numerous run-scoring records on their way to the final and began this season by nearly surpassing their own record for the highest team score in IPL history.
“Hyderabad has been disappointing. What can I say? They have numerous batters, yet none could make significant contributions, resulting in an all-out score of 120. The paying audience came to watch them. While the match was in Kolkata, Hyderabad has built a reputation for being entertaining. That allure was completely absent today,” Sehwag concluded.
