SRH Sets IPL 2025 Ablaze with Second-Highest Total Against Rajasthan Royals
3 days ago | 5 Views
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put on a fierce display against Rajasthan Royals (RR), scoring an impressive 286/6 in 20 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday. Ishan Kishan, making his debut for SRH, dazzled with an unbeaten 106 off just 47 deliveries, while Travis Head set the stage with a rapid 67 off 31.
Their explosive performance, along with quick contributions from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy, left the RR bowlers struggling, with Jofra Archer having a particularly tough outing, giving up 76 runs – the highest ever in IPL history.
The assault kicked off during the powerplay, where Head and Abhishek Sharma attacked RR’s bowling, scoring 94/1 in just six overs. Kishan kept the momentum going, reaching his fifty in a mere 25 balls and then going after Archer, who was hit for 23 runs in a single over.
As the innings continued, Klaasen and Nitish maintained the high energy, helping SRH surpass the 250-run mark in 18 overs, just shy of the all-time IPL record, which is also held by the Sunrisers.
Here are the key records from the innings:
Second-largest total ever recorded
Sunrisers Hyderabad fell just one run shy of matching their own IPL record for the highest runs in an innings, which stands at 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru from last season.
It looked like SRH was on track to break that record as they reached 279 with five balls left to play. However, Tushar Deshpande from RR struck twice in quick succession, putting a stop to SRH's quest for that record-breaking total.
The majority of totals exceeding 250 in T20 matches
SRH has now set the record for the most 250+ totals in T20 history, with four, surpassing the Indian men's cricket team and Surrey, both of which have three such scores.
Last season, SRH achieved three scores over 250, and judging by their explosive performance against RR, we can expect even more thrilling displays ahead.
Highest bowling figures in terms of cost
Jofra Archer had a rough comeback in the IPL after two years, posting the worst bowling stats in the tournament's history. He gave away 76 runs in four overs without taking a single wicket, breaking the previous record of 0/73 set by Mohit Sharma for the Gujarat Titans last season.
Second quickest to reach 1000 runs in the IPL
Heinrich Klaasen kept his IPL momentum going, hitting the 1000-run mark in the league with just 594 balls faced – making it the second-fastest achievement in the tournament's history. The South African slugger is now behind only Andre Russell (545) and has outperformed big names like Virender Sehwag, Glenn Maxwell, and Yusuf Pathan, solidifying his reputation as one of the league's most explosive finishers.
