Regarded as one of the most gifted young players in the country, Rohit displayed moments of brilliance but struggled to maintain consistency. Jonathan Norman, editor of talkSport Cricket, raised the question of what Rohit would be most remembered for if he were to retire today. Winning the T20 World Cup with India certainly ranks among his significant achievements, especially as it marked the end of an 11-year drought for the nation in ICC tournaments. Nevertheless, Norman argued that a T20 World Cup does not carry the same weight as an ODI World Cup, which could overshadow Rohit's remarkable career.

"It was only a T20 World Cup," he remarked. When informed about India's struggles in various ICC tournaments, Jon responded, "That's because there are many of them. We've had ten of them. He lost the main one. A World Cup occurs every four years. I believe the IPL is more significant than the T20 World Cup. The World Cup is… the 50-overs World Cup."

Former English cricketer David Lloyd has come to Rohit's defence, describing him as a modern-day cricketing great. Drawing parallels with Sourav Ganguly, affectionately known as Bumble, Lloyd believes that Rohit has successfully maintained team cohesion reminiscent of the era when Ganguly led the side.

"He has established an impressive legacy. I recall how Ganguly united that team and instilled resilience. Rohit appears to be a kind individual. His batting statistics are remarkable, including three double centuries in ODIs, which have significantly impacted the game. Thus, he possesses a commendable legacy," he remarked.

"His career has encompassed numerous experiences. The journey includes both triumphs and setbacks; it is a cycle of winning and losing. There are moments of celebration and disappointment. You may face challenges, but you must rise again and continue your pursuit," he added.

It is believed that Rohit has played his final Test match for India, and reports suggest that the upcoming Champions Trophy may mark his last appearance in national colours.
