India achieved an unbeaten streak to secure the Champions Trophy title for the first time in 12 years and an extraordinary third time in its history, triumphing over New Zealand in a captivating final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. Captain Rohit Sharma made a remarkable return to form, contributing a notable 76 runs as the Men in Blue successfully chased down a target of 252, finishing with four wickets remaining and an over to spare.

Following Ravindra Jadeja's decisive boundary that sealed the victory, the Indian players erupted in joyous celebrations in Dubai. This victory marked India's second consecutive ICC trophy, having previously won the T20 World Cup in June of the previous year in Barbados, further solidifying their status as a formidable white-ball team. In the last 24 completed matches in ICC white-ball tournaments, India has suffered only one defeat, which occurred in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia.

During the celebrations, Rohit and head coach Gautam Gambhir were captured in an animated conversation with ICC chairman Jay Shah in a video that quickly gained traction on social media. Rohit was seen playfully urging Shah to join him in a dance. Although the former BCCI secretary declined, Rohit persisted, showcasing his playful spirit by dancing alongside the ICC chairman.

Rohit happy with how his team handled speculations

The Indian team has faced significant challenges under the leadership of head coach Gambhir. Losses in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia, coupled with an ODI defeat in Sri Lanka, led to considerable speculation regarding the team management and certain senior players, including Rohit Sharma. Nevertheless, the team managed to recover amidst external pressures, with the 37-year-old attributing this resurgence to a strong belief in the process established by the management prior to the tournament.

"Someone mentioned that we have only lost one match in the last three ICC tournaments, which is a remarkable achievement. It reflects the quality, depth, and understanding within the team," remarked skipper Rohit following the championship victory on Sunday night.

"There is immense pressure from outside. When India loses a single game, it triggers a wave of speculation. However, the players have successfully set aside these distractions to concentrate on winning and enjoying the game," he further stated.
