"Rohit Sharma's Passionate Plea to Siraj: Step Up and Don't Rely on Bumrah"

Team India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Indian bowlers on Day 4 of the Boxing Day Test, as they once again allowed the Australian tailenders to gain momentum. During a drinks break, Rohit engaged in an animated discussion with Mohammed Siraj while Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were at the crease, with Cummins having faced 61 deliveries. The Indian side was visibly frustrated as both Cummins and Nathan Lyon managed to score over 40 runs while batting lower in the order. Although Bumrah and Siraj excelled in taking early wickets, reducing Australia to 91/6, the resilience shown by the hosts' tailenders enabled them to finish the day at 228/9.

A video clip circulated widely on X, showcasing Rohit in a spirited conversation with Siraj during a team huddle. Commentators attempted to interpret Rohit's remarks to his players during the break.

"Observe Rohit Sharma here during the drinks break, just prior to the tea interval. It appears that his comments were directed at Akash Deep as well, possibly at Siraj. This occurred right after Bumrah was concluding his spell. He clearly identifies the next bowler, saying, 'Now it's your turn, don't just rely on Bumrah; I need you to step up and fulfil your role effectively.' His demeanour was quite animated," remarked Ricky Ponting during the commentary while analyzing Rohit's communication.

Bumrah once again stood out as India's leading bowler, taking four wickets in Australia's second innings, while Siraj contributed significantly by securing three wickets, effectively dismantling Australia's top and middle order with ease.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also incurred Rohit Sharma's displeasure following his failure to secure catches.

Earlier in the day, Rohit expressed his frustration towards young Yashasvi Jaiswal for failing to secure a couple of catches during the afternoon session. Jaiswal missed a somewhat challenging catch from Usman Khawaja, but his second dropped catch, which was from Marnus Labuschagne, particularly disappointed Rohit, prompting him to raise his hands in exasperation. The young Indian player struggled in the field throughout the day, culminating in another dropped catch, this time of Pat Cummins off a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja.

In the meantime, Australia's lower-order batsmen once again proved to be a source of irritation for the visiting team, as they squandered a significant advantage after having reduced Australia to 91/6 at one point. Nathan Lyon remained at the crease with a score of 41, while number 11 Scott Boland had faced 65 balls, finishing the day on 10 not out, with Australia concluding at 228/9 and holding a lead of 333 runs.
