Rohit Sharma has effectively dispelled retirement speculation by asserting that he does not intend to bid farewell to the ODI format in the near future. Nevertheless, the Indian captain has not made any commitments regarding participation in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. Following his team's victory in the Champions Trophy, which put an end to discussions about retirement, Rohit offered insights into his future intentions.

He stated that he is approaching his career on a day-to-day basis, with no definitive plans established concerning his future.

The 37-year-old, who contributed 76 runs in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, expressed his enjoyment of the game and the camaraderie with his teammates.

“At this juncture, I am taking things as they come. It would be imprudent for me to look too far ahead. My current focus is on performing well and maintaining a positive mindset. I prefer not to make any declarations about my participation in the 2027 World Cup,” Rohit remarked during an interview with JioHotstar.

“There is no merit in making such pronouncements at this time. I have consistently approached my career one step at a time. I do not tend to contemplate the distant future, nor have I done so previously. For the moment, I am relishing my cricket and the time I share with this team. I hope my teammates appreciate my presence as well. That is what truly matters at this stage,” he added.

Previously, both Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have also addressed the rumors, confirming their intention to continue playing.

‘Don’t take us lightly'

Rohit Sharma emphasized that he does not wish for any team to underestimate his side, as they are committed to fighting until the very end.

"I do not intend to dictate how other teams should view us. My primary desire is for them to never take us lightly. Even in challenging situations, such as being five wickets down, we possess the capability to stage a comeback and alter the course of the match. Our opponents should always feel the pressure of competing against us until the final ball is bowled," Rohit remarked.

"Likewise, when we are bowling, our team exhibits unwavering determination. This is the legacy we aspire to establish and uphold. We take great pride in being a disciplined and well-structured team. Each player in our squad understands their responsibilities and how to fulfill their roles effectively. I want other teams to recognize our resilience and conviction—the mindset that we can secure victory from any circumstance," he continued.

Following the Champions Trophy victory, Rohit Sharma addressed the media in a post-match press conference, where he dispelled any retirement speculation, affirming his commitment to the 50-over format.

"I want to clarify that I will not be retiring from this format. I aim to eliminate any rumors that may arise in the future. Thank you very much," Rohit stated.

Previously, due to a dip in form, Rohit Sharma had stepped down from the Sydney Test against Australia, sparking discussions about his international career. However, he made a strong comeback with a century in the second ODI against England and has continued to perform well. After a series of underwhelming performances in the Champions Trophy, he excelled in the final against New Zealand, scoring 76 runs, which included seven fours and three sixes.
