Rohit Sharma's Frustration Boils Over: Tension Erupts During IND vs NZ Final
19 days ago | 5 Views
Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, was really fired up during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. He was quite animated during the drinks break. The Indian team made a strong start, taking three wickets within the first 13 overs, thanks to some impressive bowling from the spinners. Varun Chakaravarthy got things rolling by sending Will Young back for just 15 runs, and Kuldeep Yadav was on point, taking out the in-form Rachin Ravindra for 37 and Kane Williamson for 11.
During the drinks break after the 15th over, Rohit was seen getting a bit intense, seemingly shouting at someone. Fans on social media speculated that he was giving Shubman Gill a hard time for being late to the team huddle while Rohit was laying out the game plan.
Rohit has a reputation for being pretty animated on the field, so it's not surprising that he's scolded a young player before. Still, he commands respect from everyone on the team.
Ravindra and Young kicked things off for New Zealand with a solid 57-run partnership, marking the highest opening stand against India in this tournament. But then India's secret weapon, Chakravarthy, struck first, catching Young right in front with a straight delivery. Meanwhile, Kuldeep delivered a perfectly timed googly that got past Ravindra's defense.
New Zealand has chosen to bat first in the Champions Trophy final
Rohit Sharma lost another toss earlier but didn’t let it bother him when New Zealand's captain Mitchell Santner chose to bat first in Dubai.
"We've played here enough times, whether batting first or second, so we’re cool with chasing. It hasn’t really changed anything; we’ve chased down totals and won before. It builds confidence and takes the toss out of the equation. Ultimately, it’s all about how well we perform. That’s what we’ve been discussing in the dressing room—focusing on our game and not stressing over the toss. We just need to play well, like we’ve done before, and that’s the plan for today too," Rohit shared at the toss.
On the New Zealand side, their key bowler Matt Henry was sidelined due to a shoulder injury he picked up during the semi-final against South Africa in Lahore. Nathan Smith stepped in for him in the final. Meanwhile, India opted to keep the same lineup that dominated Australia in the semis, sticking with four spin options for the challenging Dubai pitch.
