"Rohit Sharma's Forgetful Moments: Babar Azam Steps In to Retrieve His Phone Twice"

Indian captain Rohit Sharma's tendency to forget his belongings has become legendary, with numerous individuals in the cricket community sharing anecdotes about his amusing lapses, which have included leaving behind items such as his phone and occasionally his passport.

These amusing stories extend beyond Rohit's Indian teammates; for instance, Pakistan player Imam-ul-Haq recounted a lighthearted incident in which former captain Babar Azam had to hold onto Rohit's possessions.

During a discussion on Cricwick’s Ultra Edge podcast, Imam posed a question about what he would do if he woke up as various cricketers, including Rohit. He responded, “I would check where I placed everything the night before—my shoes, my phone, my belt, who I messaged, who I called. Oh my God, you haven’t encountered him; he is truly one of a kind,” Imam remarked. “He often forgets where he has left his gloves and bats.”

Imam then recounted a story he heard from Babar Azam: “Babar mentioned an incident from the captain's meeting prior to the 2023 World Cup when they were on a plane. Rohit had purchased a new iPhone and AirPods. He said they were engaged in conversation, and he first left his iPhone behind, then forgot it on the plane, and his AirPods seemed to vanish every couple of minutes.”

‘One way or another I would get an IPL contract…’

Continuing his account, Imam remarked, “He was berating himself, questioning what he was doing, as he kept misplacing items. [Babar] mentioned on two occasions that he took his phone, saying, 'Rohit bhai, please keep your phone with you.' He even had to contact his manager to inform him that he had forgotten his AirPods. He consistently misplaces his belongings.”

Imam also shared additional amusing anecdotes about other cricketers, noting that if he were to wake up as Virat Kohli, he would start his day with a black coffee, or if he were David Warner, “I would definitely watch a Tamil film. One way or another, I would secure an IPL contract.”

Despite having achieved notable success as an opening batsman for Pakistan, Imam has not been prominently featured in the national cricket scene during the tumultuous year of 2024, having last played for the team in the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the MCG last year. Currently, Pakistan is on a tour of South Africa, aiming to achieve a series whitewash over the Proteas in the ODI series before a one-off Test match on Boxing Day.
