Rohit Sharma’s Fearless ODI Mindset Earns Praise from Ex-Pakistan Star: ‘What’s the Worst That Can Happen?’
1 month ago | 5 Views
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali expressed high admiration for Rohit Sharma following his impressive performance against England in the second ODI. Rohit showcased his batting prowess with a commanding 119 runs off 90 balls, featuring 12 fours and 7 sixes. Before this match, the Indian captain faced significant pressure, yet he successfully navigated the challenges posed by red-ball cricket and reaffirmed his dominance in the white-ball format.
In the series opener, Rohit struggled, scoring only two runs, but this setback did not deter him. He approached the game in Cuttack with a positive mindset, quickly accumulating a half-century in just 50 balls and ultimately achieving his 32nd ODI century.
Basit commended Rohit's mindset in ODIs, noting that he exhibits no fear of failure and consistently seeks to take control during the initial powerplay.
"What is the worst that could happen? He might get out for a duck. However, he should play his natural game as he did in the 2023 ODI World Cup, dominating the opposition in the first 10 overs," Basit remarked on his YouTube channel.
The former cricketer emphasized that Rohit's remarkable innings reaffirmed the notion that true class endures.
"He silenced all critics with his performance. It is often said that form is temporary, but class is permanent. Today, he exemplified this truth," he concluded.
“England benefitted from playing a series against a top-class team”
The Men in Blue have established a commanding 2-0 advantage in the three-match series, which bodes well for them as they prepare for the Champions Trophy. Although India has not participated in many One Day Internationals since the 2023 ODI World Cup, they demonstrated their superiority by decisively defeating England in the initial matches.
Nonetheless, Basit pointed out that despite the series loss, England has gained valuable experience from competing against India, allowing them to evaluate the pitches that closely resemble those they will encounter in Pakistan during the Champions Trophy.
"India may have secured the series, but even in the event of a clean sweep, England has derived significant benefits from this encounter. They have not suffered any losses. Their batsmen have gained insights into the pitches. Competing against a top-tier team has been advantageous for them, and this experience will serve them well in the Champions Trophy. I still consider England to be one of my semi-finalists," he remarked.
