Rohit Sharma suggested batting at number 3 while facing tough times in Australia, saying, "That's a key principle for any batsman."

Sanjay Bangar, the former batting coach for India, has suggested that Rohit Sharma should focus on spending more time at the crease to find his rhythm again. Rohit has been struggling lately, especially against fast bowlers, and hasn't had much success at the top of the order during the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. His attempt to switch to the middle order at number 6 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy hasn't worked out either.
In his last 13 Test innings, the 37-year-old has only managed to score one fifty, and during the Australian tour, he only got to double digits once, with a score of 10 across three innings.
Bangar emphasized that the key for any batter to rebuild their confidence is to spend time in the middle. He also mentioned that the team could consider batting him at number 3 if they want to bolster their bowling lineup.
That's a solid mantra for any batter. I think he has a couple of options. First, could he step in at No. 3? If we need to boost our bowling a bit and add some edge, he could definitely switch his batting order, Bangar mentioned on Star Sports.
The former India batting coach highlighted what's not clicking for Rohit right now. He noted that the explosive batter is a bit slow with his shot timing, which is causing some mistakes against fast bowlers.
"On top of that, he should get ready a bit sooner. It looks like he's a tad late, and we noticed his bat isn't moving forward for his go-to pull shot. He usually nails that shot, so it's a clear sign for any batter to check if they're hitting their best shots," he pointed out.
Rohit Sharma requires a couple of shots…
Bangar also addressed Rohit's concerns. He mentioned that Rohit should step forward a bit sooner to set himself up for a few shots and find his groove again.
"If he can stabilize a bit earlier, he'll have more time to move forward and then execute his best shots. The Australians have been bowling him short, but he's let quite a few go by. Rohit Sharma just needs a couple of shots to regain his rhythm and get a feel for the game," he explained.
Batting is all about the vibe. When you sense that your legs are in sync and you can execute your shots, it’s like your lost confidence just reappears out of nowhere. This can happen even during a game, not just in practice sessions, Bangar wrapped up.
On another note, India has to clinch both matches to secure a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the third consecutive time without depending on other outcomes.
