Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are diligently preparing for the forthcoming ODI series against England in Nagpur. A video shared by the BCCI showcased the pair practising vigorously in the nets, demonstrating a variety of batting techniques in anticipation of the opening match.

The 2024-25 Test season proved to be disappointing for both players, as neither was able to make a significant impact in the longest format of the game. Rohit faced a challenging season, accumulating only 164 runs over eight Tests, resulting in a dismal average of 10.93, with just one half-century to his name.

Kohli, while performing slightly better, managed to score 382 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 22.87, achieving only one century and one half-century. Their recent performances in domestic cricket did not help restore their confidence; Rohit recorded scores of 3 and 28 in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, while Kohli's much-anticipated return to first-class cricket after 12 years concluded with a mere six runs against Railways.

Kohli's difficulties in 2024 were apparent in all formats, concluding the year with a total of 655 international runs from 23 matches, resulting in a modest average of 21.83. His sole century was achieved during the Perth Test, where he recorded a highest score of

Rohit, and Kohli in ODIs

Rohit and Virat Kohli had limited participation in One Day Internationals last year, competing in only three matches against Sri Lanka, during which Rohit accumulated 157 runs at an average of 52.33. In contrast, Kohli faced challenges in Sri Lanka; however, he has since recorded an impressive total of 1,435 runs in 30 ODIs since 2023, boasting an exceptional average of 65.22, which includes six centuries and eight half-centuries.

His remarkable performance in the 2023 World Cup established him as the tournament's leading run-scorer, with a total of 765 runs at an extraordinary average of 95.62.

As they prepare to take the field in Nagpur, both Rohit and Kohli will be keen to overcome their recent Test difficulties and restore their supremacy in the ODI format. The batting prowess of this duo will be vital as India gears up for the Champions Trophy, set to commence later this month.
