A gathering of renowned Indian cricket icons from Mumbai took place at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday to commemorate the venue's 50th anniversary. The event included a special segment where both past and present cricketing legends from Mumbai recounted their treasured experiences of playing at this historic site. Notable figures such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane were among those honored on stage.

The seating arrangement on stage was organized into three distinct sections: right, center, and left. When Ravi Shastri took his place, he opted for a seat on the left. Shortly thereafter, Rohit Sharma arrived and, in a display of respect and camaraderie, requested Shastri to move to the center seats, recognizing his significant contributions to Indian cricket.

This respectful gesture by Rohit has garnered widespread acclaim on social media, particularly as he was a key member of the Indian team during Shastri's tenure as head coach.

The moment was captured and shared widely:

During the same event, Rohit addressed the fans, sharing a parting message ahead of the Champions Trophy. The Indian captain expressed the team's commitment to "do everything they can" to "bring back the trophy" to the Wankhede Stadium.

Following India's victory in the T20 World Cup last year, the BCCI organized celebratory events at the same venue, with all members of the winning team participating. An open-top bus parade was also held along Marine Drive, attracting a large number of enthusiastic fans.

Rohit with Mumbai

Rohit is presently engaged in training with the Mumbai state team after an unsatisfactory tour of Australia, where he managed to accumulate only 31 runs over the course of five innings.

In preparation for the limited-overs season, Rohit has been focusing on white-ball training, as India is set to face England in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) prior to the Champions Trophy. Additionally, the two teams will compete in five T20 Internationals before the fifty-over series; Rohit had announced his retirement from the T20 format in 2024.

As the Indian captain, he will be striving to regain his form during the ODIs against England.
