India's captain Rohit Sharma has ascended to the third position in the ICC ODI rankings for batters, surpassing teammate Virat Kohli and South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen, as announced on Wednesday. Previously ranked fifth, Rohit moved up two places following his commendable Player of the Match performance in the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, where he scored a significant 76 runs off 83 balls while opening the batting. His aggressive strokeplay during the powerplay was instrumental in providing India with a strong start in their pursuit of 252 runs.

Rohit now holds 756 rating points, which is 14 points shy of Babar Azam, who remains in second place despite Pakistan's disappointing performance in the Champions Trophy. Shubman Gill continues to lead the rankings with 784 rating points, although his innings in the final was curtailed by an exceptional catch from Glenn Phillips.

Batting icon Kohli, who made an impressive 84 runs against Australia in the semi-final, has dropped to fifth place with 736 rating points. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who emerged as India's top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy with a total of 243 runs across five matches, has maintained his position at eighth.

Kuldeep, Jadeja rise in bowlers' ranking

In the latest bowler rankings, Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm bowler from India, made significant progress, moving up three positions to third place after taking seven wickets throughout the tournament. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja also advanced three spots to secure the tenth position, having claimed five wickets during India's unbeaten streak in the event.

Among the New Zealand players, Daryl Mitchell improved by one position to sixth, Rachin Ravindra surged an impressive fourteen places to reach fourteenth, and Glenn Phillips ascended six spots to twenty-fourth in the updated ODI batter rankings. Furthermore, Mitchell Santner, the captain of the New Zealand team, emerged as the most notable improver in the ODI bowler rankings.

Santner's performance included nine wickets during the Champions Trophy, with two of those coming in the final, allowing him to rise six positions to second place in the ODI bowler rankings, now trailing only Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana.

In the ODI all-rounder rankings, Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai continues to hold the top position, although he faces increased competition from three New Zealand players following their performances in the Champions Trophy. Santner moved up one spot to fourth overall, while Bracewell advanced seven positions to seventh, and Ravindra climbed eight spots to eighth, showcasing their impressive contributions.
