Rohit Sharma's bold strategy as an opening batsman proved successful for the Mumbai Indians, leading them to a decisive nine-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings. Rohit was named Player of the Match for his impressive unbeaten score of 76 runs off 45 balls. During the post-match presentation, he expressed uncertainty about how he would feel when a stand is officially named in his honor at the Wankhede Stadium.

The Mumbai Cricket Association previously announced that Level 3 of the Divecha Pavilion at Wankhede Stadium will bear Rohit's name. "It’s a tremendous honor," Rohit remarked during the presentation ceremony on Sunday.

"As a child, I would come here to watch matches. There were times when we weren’t allowed inside the stadium. Having played all my cricket here and grown up on this ground, receiving such a significant honor is an emotional experience. I truly don’t know how I will react when it happens."

Regarded by many as the finest opener of his era, especially in limited-overs cricket, Rohit recently guided India to triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. He has also led the Mumbai Indians to an unprecedented five championship titles.

Rohit boasts an impressive record of 11,168 runs in 273 One Day Internationals (ODIs), averaging 48.76 with a strike rate of 92.80, including 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries. He is the only player in men's cricket history to have achieved three double-centuries in ODIs and holds the record for the highest individual score in a men's ODI match, with 264 runs off 173 balls against Sri Lanka in November 2014.

Additionally, Rohit is India's leading run-scorer in T20 Internationals (T20Is), amassing 4,231 runs in 158 matches at a strike rate of 140.89 and an average of 32.05. He has also recorded four centuries in this format, the highest by any Indian player. Currently, he serves as India's Test captain, having scored 4,301 runs in 67 matches at an average of 40.57, which includes 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries.
