Indian captain Rohit Sharma utilized his official Instagram account on Friday to post a video showcasing his batting practice at the nets. Engaging with the white-ball, Rohit demonstrated impressive form as he executed several aggressive shots, prominently featuring his signature pull shot.

Rohit resumed practice with the Mumbai team at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, which has sparked speculation regarding his potential participation in the forthcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, set to commence on January 23. Although his availability for the match remains uncertain, the 37-year-old had a fruitful morning session batting alongside Mumbai veteran Ajinkya Rahane.

Rohit’s attendance at the Mumbai Nets follows a difficult period with the Indian team in Australia, where he encountered significant challenges with his batting performance. Throughout three Test matches, he accumulated only 31 runs, ultimately leading to his decision to withdraw from the crucial fifth Test in Sydney.

In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah assumed the captaincy for that match, prompting considerable speculation regarding Rohit’s future as the leader of the Indian team, especially in the longest format of the game.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has indicated that Rohit may still participate in the upcoming domestic match. An MCA official informed PTI, “As part of the standard procedure between tournaments, management engages with players regarding their availability.”

“Rohit will be consulted around the time of selection for the Ranji Trophy match.”

Despite the prevailing uncertainty, Rohit remains committed to training with the Mumbai team, demonstrating a strong resolve to regain his form. His recent struggles have attracted significant attention, yet he has firmly stated his intention to retain his captaincy position.

"I am not going anywhere," he declared in an interview with the host broadcaster during the series in Australia.

As Mumbai prepares for their Ranji Trophy campaign, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma, whose return to domestic cricket may offer a vital boost to both his confidence and career.
