India's triumph over Australia in the Brisbane Test during the 2020/21 series is a significant milestone in cricket history. The team delivered an extraordinary performance, overcoming numerous injuries to key players, and successfully conquered the 'fortress' Gabba, marking their first victory at this venue in the longest format since 1989.

Rishabh Pant emerged as a standout player in this match, scoring an impressive unbeaten 89 during the 328-run chase, ultimately hitting the decisive runs that etched this achievement into history. The young Indian wicketkeeper-batter showcased his aggressive batting style, striking the ball with power across the field and confidently facing renowned bowlers like Nathan Lyon, even in the face of challenging deliveries.

Vikram Rathour, the former batting coach of India, has disclosed that Pant's bold approach often unsettled then-head coach Ravi Shastri in the dressing room. On several occasions, Shastri expressed a desire for someone to advise Pant to temper his aggression. "There were numerous instances when Ravi wanted to convey a message while Pant was batting, but no one was willing to go in. There was so much discussion from Ravi, urging, 'Tell him something!'" Rathour recounted in an interview with The Cricket Monthly.

Rohit's reply

Rathour disclosed that upon exiting the dressing room, he approached the stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, who were seated in the dugout. He intended to verify if a message regarding Pant's batting strategy should be communicated. However, before Rahane could respond, Rohit asserted that the wicketkeeper-batter should be allowed to proceed independently.

"I went to the dugout and noticed Rohit and Ajinkya sitting together. I inquired, 'Jinks, do you wish to send any message to Pant?' Rohit interjected, 'Do not convey anything to him, paaji. Let him bat. He is unlikely to heed our advice,'" Rathour remarked.

Earlier in the innings, Shubman Gill contributed a commendable 91 runs, while Cheteshwar Pujara endured several body blows to accumulate 56 runs off 211 balls.
