During the unpredictable journey of the Mumbai Indians in the current IPL 2025 season, a devoted supporter of Rohit Sharma navigated through the crowd to present a bold request to Nita Ambani as she was departing from the Shirdi shrine. The owner of the Mumbai Indians acknowledged the fan's appeal.

With hands clasped in reverence, the fan urged Nita, "Make Rohit Sharma the captain," to which Nita replied with a smile, “Leave it to God.”

Mumbai Indians have not had an ideal beginning to the 18th season of the IPL. They suffered defeats in their first two matches against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans but managed to secure a notable victory against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, upon returning to their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. However, they faced another setback with two consecutive losses, including a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who achieved their first win at Wankhede in a decade. Fortunately, they halted the momentum of the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, winning by 12 runs.

Currently, with only two victories from six matches, Mumbai occupies the seventh position in the points table as they approach the midpoint of the league. This performance follows a season in which they finished at the bottom under new captain Hardik Pandya, yet the management has expressed unwavering support for the all-rounder.

Additionally, Rohit Sharma has been struggling to regain his form this IPL season. In five matches, he has managed to score just 56 runs at an average of 11.20. The 37-year-old, who stepped down from the MI captaincy prior to IPL 2024, has not exceeded 20 runs in any innings during IPL 2025. Since 2023, his average stands at only 24.39 in the IPL, marking the second-lowest for an opener with a minimum of 25 innings. It is also noteworthy that Mumbai has opted to utilize Rohit as an impact substitute on two occasions this season.

Mumbai's next two matches will be held at home, facing Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday and Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
