Rohit Sharma Greets Returning Mayank Yadav with Twin Sixes, But Pacer Hits Back in Same Over
2 days ago | 5 Views
Rohit Sharma made a remarkable return to run-scoring during Mumbai Indians’ last two matches in IPL 2025, scoring 76* and 70 in games against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively. However, he was unable to translate his exciting start into a substantial score when MI played against Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai on Sunday, getting out on just his fifth delivery of the innings to Mayank Yadav, the Indian pace sensation who was making a comeback to cricket after more than six months.
Rohit hit the first two balls of his innings – both bowled by Mayank – for massive sixes on the leg side, but the bowler known for his remarkable speeds managed to outsmart him with his variation in pace.
Despite conceding a couple of sixes in that same over, Mayank maintained his cool and bowled a slower short ball at 120 km/h, wide outside off. Rohit, anchored to the crease, attempted to guide it fine but ended up mistiming his shot.
The ball took the bottom edge of the bat and soared directly to Prince Yadav at short third man, leading to the MI opener departing for only 12 runs off five deliveries.

Earlier, Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, won the toss and chose to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Sunday afternoon match. The most significant positive for LSG was the return of Mayank Yadav; the pace sensation came back to competitive cricket following a long injury hiatus. This match against MI marked his first participation in any cricket format since the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024.
He took the place of Shardul Thakur in the playing XI. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Karn Sharma for Mitchell Santner and giving a debut to Corbin Bosch, who replaced Vignesh Puthur.
Following a poor start to their IPL 2025 journey, MI made an impressive resurgence for playoff eligibility, winning four consecutive matches to earn 10 points on the table. LSG also has the same total of points but is behind MI on Net Run Rate.
