Rohit Sharma Expresses Frustration with Umpire's Wide Call During Tense India-England ODI
1 month ago | 5 Views
Skipper Rohit Sharma showed his frustration with the umpire's call during the second ODI between India and England at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. It was an emotional day for the Indian captain, who seemed to be getting annoyed with both Axar Patel and KL Rahul. Things escalated when he was upset over Harshit Rana's erratic throw, and towards the end of England's innings, he voiced his concerns to the umpire about a particular decision.
In the second-to-last over of England's innings, Harshit Rana bowled a delivery that was wide of the off-stump. The umpire called it wide, even though Liam Livingstone had shuffled towards the off-side, and KL Rahul also raised his concerns about the move. Rohit approached umpire Chris Brown to discuss the call, clearly unhappy with the wide decision.
Livingstone really rubbed it in for the Indian team by hitting the next ball for a six. The English all-rounder capped off a great performance with 41 runs, pushing his team past the 300 mark. Adil Rashid also joined in on the fun, blasting 14 runs off just five balls, which featured three back-to-back fours against Mohammed Shami.
Jadeja grabs three wickets as India keeps England to 304 runs
Ben Duckett set the stage for England's impressive total by opting to bat first, taking on the Indian pace attack with some aggressive strokes and racking up quick runs. He notched up his third half-century in just four ODI innings, showcasing his current form. Duckett scored 65 runs off 56 balls before being dismissed. Joe Root was the standout performer for England, contributing 69 runs off 72 balls.
On the Indian side, Ravindra Jadeja was a thorn in England's side, claiming three wickets for 35 runs and helping to limit the visitors to 304 in the second ODI. This marked the lowest total at Barabati Stadium since 2011, where the average first innings score has typically been over 350. Jadeja's timely wickets were crucial in halting England's momentum, especially when Duckett and Root were looking solid at the crease, with Duckett being aggressive and Root maintaining his composure. Jadeja's strikes came at pivotal moments, disrupting England's flow and preventing them from fully exploiting their strong start.
