Rohit Sharma Downplays Pakistan Focus Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

The Champions Trophy is just around the corner, and India’s captain Rohit Sharma is laser-focused on bringing the trophy back home. India made it to the finals in 2017 but lost to Pakistan at The Oval in London. Still, Rohit is confident that his team will do everything possible to win this eight-team tournament.
The 2025 Champions Trophy kicks off on February 19 in Karachi with the opening match between the hosts, Pakistan, and New Zealand. India will start their journey against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Stadium.
The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is set for February 23 in Dubai. Rohit isn’t feeling the pressure about this rivalry, stating it’s just another game, and his team will prepare for it like they do for any other match.
"I’ve talked a lot about that game in the last couple of years. For us, it’s just another game. We’ll do what any cricket team needs to do on that day," Rohit shared with Star Sports during the BCCI's annual Naman Awards.
"We’re not making a big deal out of it from our side. We just want to show up and perform well," he added.
India and Pakistan last faced off in the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup, where India pulled off a thrilling win.
There's no time to slow down
Rohit Sharma, who guided India to their second T20 World Cup title in 2024, emphasized that his team can't afford to ease up now. With this victory, India has finally broken an 11-year ICC title drought.
The focus now shifts to the upcoming Champions Trophy, which will take place in Pakistan and the UAE.
"We can't take our foot off the gas. It's important to stay sharp and ready for the next challenge. We just wrapped up a fantastic T20 World Cup, and now we’re gearing up for another tournament in just a few weeks," Rohit Sharma stated.
"Everyone's preparing in their own way. Some are playing domestic matches, while others are involved in international games. When the time comes, it’s all about getting your mindset right and concentrating on what’s ahead," he added.
Recently, the BCCI mandated that all centrally contracted players must participate in domestic cricket. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant have all played at least one Ranji Trophy match in the past 10 days.
Rohit Sharma has been facing some challenges with his form lately and even "stood down" from the Sydney Test against Australia.
