Indian captain Rohit Sharma has justified his reaction towards Kuldeep Yadav during the ICC Men's Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia, asserting that his behavior was not intended to offend anyone. Rohit, 37, has frequently been observed admonishing his teammates for their lack of effort on the field. In the semi-final match against Australia, both Rohit and Virat Kohli displayed their frustration towards Kuldeep after he failed to attempt a catch on a ball that passed him by.

Similarly, during the final against New Zealand, Ravindra Jadeja and Virat confronted Kuldeep for not returning behind the stumps to retrieve a throw, which ultimately cost India the opportunity to run out Michael Bracewell.

In a post-match interview with JioHotstar following the Champions Trophy victory, Rohit Sharma elaborated on the importance of players expressing their emotions during matches. He acknowledged that he sometimes becomes a bit "overzealous," emphasizing that such reactions are part of the "spirit of the game."

"We possess an exceptionally strong team, and it is a privilege to play alongside such dedicated individuals. Each player is aware of their roles and responsibilities. Naturally, emotions can escalate on the field. Occasionally, I may get a bit carried away, but it is all in the spirit of the game," Rohit Sharma stated.

"The exchanges that occur on the field are not intended to harm anyone or to display arrogance; they simply reflect our passion. Ultimately, our primary objective is to win, and we are prepared to do whatever is necessary to accomplish that," he continued.

Kuldeep Yadav emerged as a standout performer in the final against New Zealand, claiming crucial wickets of Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson.

Rohit impresses in the final against New Zealand

In the final of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma contributed significantly with a score of 76, aiding India in successfully chasing a target of 252 runs. Although he did not perform exceptionally in the group stage and semi-final, the experienced player rose to the occasion when it was most crucial.

India completed the tournament without a single defeat, a remarkable achievement, especially considering that Rohit Sharma did not win any of the tosses throughout the eight-team competition.

"We remained unbeaten despite losing all five tosses. Nevertheless, we secured the trophy. In the five matches we contested, we emerged victorious in each one. Achieving a tournament win without a single loss is a tremendous accomplishment, and it brings me great satisfaction," Rohit stated.

"Honestly, it wasn't until we clinched the trophy that anyone truly considered it. However, after our victory, it dawned on us that we had navigated the entire tournament without a defeat. That realization made the achievement even more significant. It is challenging to articulate how that feels at this moment," he added.

Rohit Sharma has indicated that he does not intend to retire from One Day Internationals. However, he remains non-committal regarding his participation in the 2027 World Cup.
