Suresh Raina expressed his admiration for Shubman Gill's elevation to the leadership group as vice-captain for the Champions Trophy, emphasizing the youngster's immense potential. Raina hailed Gill as the "next superstar of Indian cricket" and praised the selectors' decision to bank on him as a future leader. The 25-year-old opener retained his position as Rohit Sharma's deputy, showcasing the board's confidence in his leadership capabilities.

Despite a challenging red-ball series in Australia, Gill's stature in the ODI setup remains unaffected, highlighting his importance in India's long-term plans. Raina attributed this progression to Rohit Sharma's vision, suggesting the Indian captain has identified Gill as his successor.

"Shubman has been remarkable in the one-day format, and making him vice-captain for the ICC Champions Trophy speaks volumes about his ability. Rohit sees him as the next leader," Raina told Star Sports.

Suresh Raina lavished praise on Shubman Gill, calling him one of the best captains in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and endorsing the selectors' decision to elevate him as vice-captain for the Champions Trophy. Reflecting on Gill's leadership with the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Raina highlighted his exceptional performance and leadership qualities over the past year.

Raina praised Shubman Gill as one of the finest captains, particularly noting his leadership of the Gujarat team during the IPL.He underscored that Gill's outstanding performance in the last 12 to 16 months justifies this choice. As a result, he views Rohit Sharma opening the innings with Gill as a strategic decision, showcasing the astute judgment of both the selectors and Rohit in arriving at this conclusion.

A member of India's 2013 Champions Trophy-winning team, Raina credited Rohit Sharma for recognizing Gill's leadership potential, comparing it to the qualities exhibited by former skipper Virat Kohli.

"Rohit has observed how Gill leads, much like how Virat Kohli did. Gill’s on-field work ethic is exceptional. He knows the team, leads from the front, and has a strong awareness of the game. It’s a very good move by the selectors and Rohit," Raina added.
