Riyan Parag had the honor of captaining the Rajasthan Royals at his home ground in Guwahati during the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking a significant occasion for both the 23-year-old and the local supporters in attendance. Parag is the first individual from his state to lead an IPL team, stepping in for Sanju Samson, who is still in recovery from an injury and not yet fit to participate in a full match. The game experienced a brief disruption when a fan entered the field and fell at Parag's feet.

Nonetheless, there has been some skepticism expressed online regarding this event, with certain users questioning whether it was merely a public relations stunt.

Parag received an enthusiastic reception from the local supporters during the toss. The moment he took the microphone to face the Knight Riders, the audience responded with a resounding applause for their local hero. Parag also spoke to the home crowd, expressing that he feels "humbled" to captain the IPL team in their presence.

"I am extremely proud and humbled to lead such a franchise. I began my journey at the age of 17. The trust the management has placed in me is something I find difficult to articulate," Parag remarked.

A forgettable start to the season for RR

RR's regular captain, Samson, has not yet been fully cleared for fitness and has been advised against performing wicketkeeping duties. Consequently, the Royals utilized Samson as their Impact Player in the first two matches of the season. In his absence from behind the stumps, Dhruv Jurel has taken on the wicketkeeping responsibilities for the team.

However, the rest of the night was largely disappointing for Parag, as his team suffered an eight-wicket defeat to KKR. This marks two significant losses for RR under Parag's leadership in their initial matches of the season. The Royals commenced the season by allowing a staggering total of 286/6 in 20 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Jofra Archer, who delivered the most costly bowling spell in IPL history against SRH, along with fellow bowlers Fazalhaq Farooqi and Maheesh Theekshana, were unable to withstand the aggressive batting of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan.
