Rishabh Pant has moved on from the Delhi Capitals, but he still shares a strong connection with his former teammates, which was evident during the toss on Monday. Pant has signed with the Lucknow Super Giants after a record-breaking bid of INR 27 crore in the IPL Auction. He’s made the switch from Delhi to Lucknow, and in his first match of IPL 2025, he faced off against his old team in Visakhapatnam.

Following Pant's departure, Delhi appointed Axar Patel as their new captain, who has always had a great relationship with the star wicketkeeper, both on and off the field.

During the toss on Monday, Axar called the coin flip, but Pant guessed incorrectly as the new Delhi captain chose to bowl first. Still, Pant playfully suggested he would have preferred to bat first, jokingly saying, “Batting first!”

Former Indian spinner Murali Karthik, who was at the toss, noted the camaraderie and playful exchanges between the two captains.

On the other hand, Axar shared his thoughts on facing Pant, with whom he played last season in Delhi, mentioning that they are both familiar with each other's strategies.

“I’ve played alongside Pant before; he knows my game, and I know his. We’re aware of each other’s tricks,” Axar remarked during the toss.

Pant also expressed that this match would be particularly emotional for him, as it marks the first time he’ll compete in the IPL without wearing Delhi's colors.

“I’ve been with DC my whole career, so there are a lot of feelings involved. Our preparations have gone well, and everyone is in good shape and mindset,” Pant stated at the toss.

The Capitals opted for Faf du Plessis, Tristan Stubbs, Mitchell Starc, and Jake Fraser-McGurk as their four overseas players, while they will be without their star batter KL Rahul, who has returned to Mumbai for the birth of his first child.
