It was a tough day for Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma in their Ranji Trophy matches on Thursday, but they still managed to lift the spirits of their fans at the stadium by signing autographs and taking pictures.

Both players returned to the Ranji Trophy after the BCCI made it mandatory for national team regulars to participate in domestic cricket to keep their spots. Unfortunately, the batters, including Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, had a rough time at the crease.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant, who hadn’t played in this competition since the 2017-18 season, came out to bat for Delhi but only lasted 10 balls before scoring just one run. Meanwhile, Rohit, making his first appearance for Mumbai in nine years, also had a disappointing outing, getting out for three runs in 19 balls.

Even though they didn't perform well on their first day back in the Ranji Trophy, both Indian players had some really touching moments with the fans. After the game in Rajkot, Pant made his way over to the crowd, and one fan even touched his feet, which caught him off guard. He ended up taking photos and signing autographs for everyone.

At the MCA Ground in Mumbai, most fans had already left after Rohit's lackluster performance, but for those who stuck around, the 37-year-old took the time to sign autographs at the end of Day 1 of the match against Jammu and Kashmir.

With another innings still to play and possibly more games ahead, these Indian players have a chance to bounce back. Former captain Virat Kohli was one of the few big names to miss the sixth round of the Ranji Trophy due to a neck sprain, but he’s expected to be back for the next match starting January 30.

India's upcoming Test series will be a tour to England, where they’ll play five matches starting in June.
