Rishabh Pant’s IPL 2025 Woes Continue: LSG Captain Falls to Prasidh Krishna
3 days ago | 5 Views
With Mitchell Marsh sidelined, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant took to the crease alongside Aiden Markram in their IPL 2025 match against the Gujarat Titans at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Unfortunately, the shift in batting order didn’t help Pant, as he continued to struggle with his form.
The 27-year-old was dismissed after scoring just 21 runs off 18 balls, falling to Prasidh Krishna in the seventh over.
Pant attempted to charge down the pitch, looking to clear the covers, but ended up getting a top edge that was easily caught by Washington Sundar at third man.
He nearly went out earlier when Jos Buttler failed to catch a ball off Mohammed Siraj's delivery, giving Pant a second chance on the last ball of the third over of the Gujarat Titans' innings.
Throughout his time at the crease, Pant seemed uneasy, leaving Aiden Markram to carry most of the scoring load during the powerplay. Pant's innings featured four boundaries but was also marred by several dot balls.
So far in the 18th edition of the IPL, Rishabh Pant has recorded scores of 0, 15, 2, 2, and 21 in his five innings. Across six matches this season, he has accumulated just 40 runs, averaging 8 with a strike rate of 80.
Pant's performance as a T20 opener
This marks the first time since 2022 that Pant has batted at the top of the order in T20s. His last outing as an opener for India in a T20I was against New Zealand in Napier.
In the IPL, this was also the fifth time Pant has opened the batting, with the first four instances occurring during his rookie season in 2016. Before facing the Gujarat Titans, his scores as an opener were 69(40), 2(8), 32(26), and 1(2).
Leading up to the match against the Gujarat Titans, Pant had opened in T20s a total of 21 times, amassing 644 runs with an average of 32.20 and a strike rate of 162.21. He has also recorded five half-centuries and one century while batting first in this format.
In the game between LSG and the Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Titans managed to score 180/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan.
For the Lucknow Super Giants, Shardul Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi each took two wickets.
