The IPL 2025 season is officially underway, with teams entering the second round of matches and solidifying their strategies. On Thursday, a matchup will feature two teams with starkly different outcomes from their opening games. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored an impressive 286 runs against Rajasthan Royals, continuing their successful run from last season with a victory by 44 runs. In contrast, Lucknow Super Giants were unable to defend their total of 209, succumbing to Delhi Capitals in the first thrilling encounter of the season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will remain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, while Lucknow Super Giants will make a brief journey from Vizag. Both teams boast formidable batting lineups, featuring some of the most powerful hitters in the game, including Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, and David Miller, among others.

Given this context, fans can anticipate a high-scoring match. If there is any game where a team might surpass 300 runs in an IPL match, this could be it, especially on the flat pitch at Uppal and considering LSG's injury-plagued bowling unit. However, matches like these often come with unexpected twists, and players from both teams will not underestimate their opponents.

Lucknow Super Giants displayed strong batting in the initial stages of their innings against Delhi Capitals, with Mitchell Marsh and Pooran hitting boundaries consistently to set a solid foundation. Unfortunately, their innings concluded weakly, leaving them 20-30 runs short of their anticipated target.

LSG has limited options for adjustments, so they are likely to field a team similar to the one that faced Ashutosh Sharma. However, changes in the batting order are expected, with suggestions for Rishabh Pant to open the innings, as the captain seeks to maximize his performance.

Don’t expect changes for SRH either, even though they have options. They did concede 242 against RR, so might look to beef up their bowling with someone like Rahul Chahar, but otherwise the demands will be more of the same. It was a relatively quiet day for Abhishek and Klaasen, but Ishan Kishan showed off why he fits this team like a glove at number three. How do teams cope with the pure hitting power prevalent in their batting order? This roughshod, threadbare LSG bowling might not have the answers

Nevertheless, LSG did have DC down three wickets in their first ten deliveries, thanks in no small part to Shardul Thakur finding some sort of purchase. More of the same will be required from him against the Abhishek/Head opening duo, for damage limitation as much as anything. But more will be needed from Ravi Bishnoi in particular, who was extremely poor against DC and stands to receive more punishment if he doesn’t find the crucial rhythm.

SRH predicted XI: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar, Pat Cummins (c), Harshal Patel, Mohammed Shami, Simarjeet Singh

LSG predicted XI: Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (c&wk), Nicholas Pooran, Aidan Markram, David Miller, Ayush Badoni, Shardul Thakur, Shahbaz Ahmed, Prince Yadav, Digvesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi
