Rishabh Pant Breaks Silence on IPL Struggles: “It’s Not Right to Blame One Individual Every Time”

Rishabh Pant, acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 27 crore, has struggled to find his rhythm with the bat in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The disappointing performances continued for the left-hander against the Mumbai Indians as Lucknow lost by 54 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Pant attempted a reverse sweep on the second delivery of his innings. Unfortunately, he could only offer a straightforward catch to Karn Sharma at short third man and had to leave after contributing just four runs.

Following the match against Mumbai Indians, Pant was inquired about his poor performance in the 18th season of the T20 tournament. The LSG captain replied that it isn't fair to single out one person since, in the end, it is a team game.

In the 10 matches that Pant has participated in during the IPL 2025 season, the 27-year-old has amassed only 110 runs at an average of 12. 22 and a strike rate of 98. 21. His scores are 0, 15, 2, 2, 21, 63, 3, 0, and 4.

"Keeping it simple and not overthinking it too much. In a season like this, where things aren’t going your way, you’re bound to start questioning your abilities as a player - that’s not something you want to do. When the team is performing well, you need to focus on that," Pant conveyed to the host broadcaster.

"Ultimately, it’s a team game. Yes, one player can make a difference, but consistently highlighting the individual isn’t appropriate, I suppose," he further stated.

Shane Watson surprised by Rishabh Pant's dismissal

When Rishabh Pant attempted an unsuccessful reverse sweep on just the second ball he faced, former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson was taken aback as he couldn't comprehend what happened at that moment.

Even the former New Zealand pacer Danny Morrison was left speechless after witnessing Pant's choice of shot against Will Jacks.

"I just can’t wrap my head around this. Premeditated from Rishabh Pant, on the second ball he's faced. It's such a challenging shot. He hit the first ball for four. That’s not the way Rishabh Pant typically gets his innings underway," Watson remarked on air.

Conversely, Morrison stated, "Wow. Just wow. Will Jacks contributing to the left-hander’s only list in the IPL this season. "

With this loss against the Mumbai Indians, LSG remains in sixth place in the points table. The team will next compete against Punjab Kings on Sunday, May 4, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
