Rishabh Pant Attributes Stumping Error to 'Luck' in LSG's Loss to DC, Expresses Disbelief Over DRS Decision

Rishabh Pant's debut in Vizag on Monday did not unfold as he had anticipated. In his first match as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, Pant faced disappointment, scoring a six-ball duck and making a misstep in his leadership. Ultimately, a wicketkeeping error became the focal point of LSG's narrow one-wicket defeat to the Delhi Capitals.
Ashutosh Sharma's remarkable performance brought the chase down to a run-a-ball scenario for Delhi as they approached the final over. Nevertheless, Lucknow remained competitive with No. 11 Mohit Sharma at the crease at the start of the 20th over. Spinner Shahbaz Ahmed delivered a superb delivery on a good length, targeting the middle as the batter attempted to play it to the on-side while advancing down the pitch. However, the ball turned sharply away.
Mohit found himself well outside the crease when the ball passed his bat, presenting Pant with the chance to execute a stumping and claim the final wicket. Unfortunately, he failed to capitalize on the opportunity. The captain then decided to initiate a DRS review, which was promptly rejected as the ball had turned excessively, missing the off stump. Pant was left in disbelief as he watched the replay, likely regretting the missed chance to stump Mohit.
Mohit put Ashutosh back on strike in the second ball, before the latter wrapped up the chase with a six on the delivery.
'Luck plays a part in this game'
In the post-match presentation, Pant chose not to elaborate on the incident, referring to it simply as "luck" and noting that such occurrences are typical in cricket.
"Certainly, luck is a factor in this game. If it had missed Mohit Sharma's pads, it could have led to a stumping opportunity. However, these situations are part of cricket. Instead of fixating on them, the focus should be on improving our performance," Pant stated.
Next week, Lucknow will compete at home in the Ekana Stadium against the Punjab Kings, while Delhi is set to face the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday in Vizag.
