Priyansh Arya faced a golden duck after being bowled by Jofra Archer of the Rajasthan Royals. However, in the subsequent match against the Chennai Super Kings, he struck the very first ball for a six over point without any hesitation. This fearless approach particularly impressed Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting during Arya's remarkable maiden IPL century on Tuesday night in Mullanpur. Arya achieved the second-fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 39 balls.

"I have witnessed many cricket matches, but I haven't seen many innings as impressive as the one I observed tonight," Ponting remarked in a video shared by Punjab Kings on their social media platforms.

"There are two key aspects of Priyansh's innings that I want to emphasize. You were dismissed on the first ball in the last game, yet today, you launched the first ball for a six that traveled 100 meters over point. That speaks volumes about your character and the mindset we aspire to maintain. You showcased that mentality to everyone today. Regardless of the previous match's outcome, whether you scored runs or not, you remained true to your game. You demonstrated the determination to challenge the bowlers right from the first ball. You accomplished that. It was an extraordinary innings," said the legendary Australian cricketer in response to Arya's 103 runs off 42 balls.

The left-handed opening batsman, in his debut IPL season, hit an impressive nine sixes and seven fours during this explosive innings, which set the stage for Punjab's substantial total of 219 for six.

Ponting heaps praise on Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen

Arya put on a 71-run stand for the sixth wicket with Shashank Singh, who contributed an unbeaten 52 off 36 balls. Ponting was all praise for Shashank's game awareness.

Shashank's entry marked the beginning of a remarkable partnership with you. Once again, you delivered an impressive performance. What stood out to me about your innings was its intelligence and strategic approach. You executed exactly what the team required at that moment. Shashank also received valuable support from the tall South African all-rounder Marco Jansen, who contributed 34 runs off 19 balls.

"Marco, where are you, my friend? Those were crucial runs as well. The partnership of 39 runs off 19 balls was significant. During the timeout, you mentioned that we could reach 220, and we ended up with 219," Ponting remarked.

"This score is actually the highest ever recorded at this venue. We achieved it while facing adversity at 5 for 80. So far, everyone has contributed when needed. Players have stepped up and accomplished the task at hand. This is the essence of a strong team."
