
Rhythm & Kusale Impress in Selection Trials with Standout Performances

New Delhi: Swapnil Kusale, a bronze medallist from the Paris Olympics, and emerging pistol shooter Rhythm Sangwan achieved victories in their respective events during the ongoing national selection trials held here on Wednesday. Arya Rajesh Borse excelled in the women’s 10m air rifle T2 competition.
In the 25m pistol trial (T2), Rhythm triumphed in two shoot-offs against Manu Bhaker, a double Olympic bronze medallist who led the qualification round with a score of 591 in a highly competitive field. Simranpreet Kaur Brar, known for her consistent performances, secured second place with a score of 588. The final eight also included four other Olympians: Rahi Sarnobat (588), Esha Singh (586), Heena Sidhu (580), and Sangwan (578).
Ultimately, both Rhythm and Manu finished with 37 hits after ten series of five shots each. The first shoot-off resulted in a 4-4 tie, but Rhythm prevailed in the second shoot-off with a score of 4-3.
In the 50m rifle 3 Positions event, Kusale qualified for the T1 final with an impressive score of 592 out of 600, placing him third on the leaderboard. Kiran Ankush Jadhav from the Navy led with a score of 596, followed by Akhil Sheoran with 593.
During the final, Kusale took an early lead after the first five shots in the kneeling position, maintaining this advantage throughout the competition. He concluded with a score of 465.1, finishing 2.6 points ahead of the seasoned Sheoran, who took second place. Veteran Chain Singh secured third.
In the women’s 10m rifle final, Arya Rajesh Borse demonstrated her dominance in a high-scoring contest. Newly crowned national champion Ananya Naidu set a strong pace with a score of 53.1 after the initial five shots and maintained her lead until the 20th shot in the 24-shot final. However, Arya remained competitive, consistently scoring no less than 10.4 between her 11th and 21st shots. She took the lead with a perfect 10.9 on her 21st shot, while Mehuli Ghosh advanced to surpass Tokyo Olympian Elavenil Valarivan for a podium finish.
