The ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 has concluded, with India securing the title for the third time. Attention will now shift to the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to commence on March 22. In anticipation of the 2025 season of this lucrative league, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu humorously criticized the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), pointing out the franchise's ongoing struggle to clinch a championship.
Despite having a dedicated fanbase, RCB has yet to win the IPL trophy, and the team frequently faces ridicule for its inability to achieve victory in the tournament. Discussions regarding the IPL arose during the Hindi commentary of the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand.
Sanjay Bangar was invited to share his thoughts on RCB's recent performances. The former batting coach of India commended the team's consistent efforts over the past four to five years, noting their appearances in the playoffs.
“The team's performance has been steady for the last 4-5 years. They have reached the playoffs on four occasions. Last year, after losing seven matches and then making it to the playoffs, it was a remarkable comeback. Once a team achieves such a turnaround, they can overcome the next challenge,” Bangar remarked.
Nevertheless, Ambati Rayudu jested about the franchise, suggesting that while RCB might reach Qualifier 2 this season, that would likely be the extent of their success.
Sanjay Bhai, I believe RCB will overcome the next challenge. I am confident that RCB will advance to Qualifier 2 next time, Rayudu remarked with a chuckle.
Sanjay Bangar responded with laughter, indicating that Rayudu's comment was somewhat inappropriate. "This is quite unfair. Such remarks are below the belt. I cannot condone this behavior. RCB supporters are listening."
Despite the potential backlash from RCB fans, Rayudu remained unfazed. He dismissed Bangar's concerns, stating, "Let them observe."
The host then pointed out to Bangar that Rayudu is a dedicated supporter of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is indifferent to the opinions of the RCB fanbase regarding his statements.
