Royal Challengers Bengaluru is set to take on Chennai Super Kings in an exciting IPL 2025 matchup this Friday, sparking lively exchanges among their fans on social media. Over the years, even former cricketers, especially those from CSK, have taken jabs at RCB for their lack of trophies in the tournament, and this trend continues.

On Wednesday, ex-CSK players Subramaniam Badrinath and Ambati Rayudu had a good laugh at RCB's expense during a YouTube interview where Badrinath quizzed Rayudu, “Do you think RCB will finally break their jinx this year?” This prompted chuckles from both.

Rayudu kept the playful banter going, stating he hopes RCB doesn’t win this year, suggesting that the IPL benefits from having a team like RCB around. “As a fan, I’ve had a lot of laughs at their expense over the years. I’d like to see them win someday, just not this year. We want CSK to shine and take the title again. In the end, the IPL needs a team like RCB (laughs),” Rayudu remarked.

The last time Royal Challengers reached the IPL final was in 2016, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. In contrast, Chennai Super Kings have claimed the IPL title five times, with their most recent victory in 2023 under the leadership of MS Dhoni against Gujarat Titans.

Last year's encounter between RCB and CSK was particularly intense, as it was a do-or-die match for playoff qualification. RCB made a stunning comeback to eliminate CSK from the playoff race, but ultimately fell to Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator.

RCB kicks off IPL 2025 with a victory

Rajat Patidar's team kicked off the current season with a victory, taking down the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, by 7 wickets in the first match. Virat Kohli shone with an impressive unbeaten score of 59, and Phil Salt showcased his power-hitting skills, scoring 56 runs off just 31 balls. RCB successfully chased down the 175-run target with 22 balls remaining.
