India had a pretty solid day at the Gabba on day four, turning around a tough situation and putting themselves in a good spot for a possible hard-fought draw in the rain-affected third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were key in helping the team escape a tricky spot, especially since the rest of the batting lineup crumbled in a way that fans have seen way too often.

The top order really struggled, with many players getting out while trying to play flashy shots. Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been crucial on India’s previous successful tours of Australia, shared his thoughts during his commentary for Star Sports.

“The partnership between KL and Jadeja was the highlight of this innings, and now things are looking a lot more promising,” Pujara noted, boasting an impressive average of over 47 in Australia, including three centuries. He was one of the standout players during the last match at the Gabba, where his steady innings helped India wear down the Australian bowlers.

He was chosen to be a batter…

Pujara had some nice things to say about Rahul, who has really stepped up to support him as an opener. “KL has proven that if you focus and play well, this pitch is definitely one where you can rack up runs. It’s not a tough pitch where you can’t make it through or struggle to score.”

On day one, India lost wickets quickly, finding themselves at 44-4 at one point. Rohit Sharma’s rough patch continued as he got out early on day four, but Rahul teamed up with Ravindra Jadeja, and they put together a solid 67-run partnership to steady the ship.

The aim for India was to avoid the follow-on, and Rahul and Jadeja’s efforts were key in achieving that. Pujara also praised Jadeja for his contribution, as he made a valuable 77 runs. Rahul added a strong 82 before being caught out by a brilliant catch from Steven Smith at slip.

“So, it’s really about getting through that new ball, and KL showed that today. Ravindra also made a significant impact because he was selected as a batter, and he proved why he was chosen,” Pujara wrapped up.

A fantastic effort from Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah for the tenth wicket helped India surpass the follow-on target just before stumps on day three, putting them in a solid position to level the series in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
