Ravindra Jadeja made a significant impact upon his return to the Ranji Trophy with Saurashtra, achieving a five-wicket haul against Delhi during their Round 6 match in Rajkot. The Indian all-rounder was responsible for the dismissals of opener Sanat Sangwan (12), Yash Dhull (44), captain Ayush Badoni (60), Harsh Tyagi (3), and Navdeep Saini (0).

Rishabh Pant, also returning to the Ranji Trophy for Delhi, had a disappointing first innings, managing only one run off ten balls before being dismissed by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.

This match marked Jadeja’s 35th five-wicket haul in First-Class cricket, bringing his total wicket count for Saurashtra to 201. He is now one of only four bowlers from Saurashtra to achieve 200 or more wickets.

In his last Ranji Trophy appearance against Tamil Nadu in January 2023, Jadeja claimed eight wickets. He has consistently represented Saurashtra in domestic cricket, having made his first-class debut in the 2006-07 Duleep Trophy for the West Zone, and subsequently debuting for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy.

In 2012, he became the eighth player in history and the first Indian to score three first-class triple centuries, joining an elite group that includes legends such as Sir Don Bradman and Brian Lara. His first triple century was recorded in November 2011, when he scored 314 runs off 375 balls against Orissa. This was followed by scores of 303* against Gujarat in November 2012 and 331 runs off 501 balls against Railways the following month.

Additionally, in the latest ICC rankings, Jadeja holds the position of the No. 1 Test all-rounder with 400 rating points, surpassing Marco Jansen (294), Mehidy Hasan (284), Pat Cummins (282), and Shakib Al Hasan (263).

Jadeja's return to the Ranji Trophy follows India's disappointing 1-3 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the aftermath of this loss, the BCCI has been encouraging regular Indian players to engage in domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy to enhance their match fitness.

How did other Team India stars perform?

In addition to Pant, both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill delivered disappointing performances. Upon his return to the Ranji Trophy, Rohit was dismissed for a mere three runs in the first innings against Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, Shreyas Iyer, who has been selected for the Champions Trophy squad, managed only 11 runs before being caught at mid-on. In the encounter between Karnataka and Punjab, Shubman Gill was caught behind after scoring just four runs.
