Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar's Lighthearted Jab at Imam-ul-Haq: Drawing Parallels with Inzamam's Run-Outs

Pakistan kicked off their big match against India in the ICC Men's Champions Trophy on a high note, but things took a turn when they lost a couple of quick wickets, allowing Rohit Sharma and his team to bounce back. First, Hardik Pandya sent Babar Azam packing, and then Imam-ul-Haq made a hasty decision that led to his run-out. This prompted some light-hearted banter from Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram, and Sunil Gavaskar, who brought up Imam's famous uncle, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

In the 10th over, Imam tried to nudge a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav towards mid-on and dashed for a quick single. Unfortunately, Axar Patel was quick on the draw and hit the stumps directly, leaving Imam short despite his dive. He ended up with just 10 runs off 26 balls before heading back to the pavilion.

For those who don’t know, Imam is Inzamam's nephew. During the commentary, Shastri pointed out that Imam has been run out six times, while Inzamam holds the record for 46 run-outs in international cricket.

Inzamam himself was run out against India back in 2005 and was also famously given out for 'obstructing the field' during an ODI in 2006 when he got in the way of a throw from Suresh Raina.

This led Shastri to jokingly ask Inzamam if this tendency runs in the family. Akram chimed in with a laugh, saying, "No comment. Inzy will get upset. But I might be guilty too; I wasn't the fastest runner. That run by Imam was a bit reckless. He was in a good position, and that decision was just silly. Now he’s back in the dressing room."

Gavaskar added, "Ravi, you asked if it runs in the family? I think there's no run in it."

Pakistan has chosen to bat after winning the toss

Pakistan's captain, Mohammad Rizwan, won the toss and decided to bat first. They brought Imam into the lineup after Fakhar Zaman was sidelined for the tournament due to an injury he picked up in the match against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, India kept their lineup unchanged. For Pakistan, this match against India is crucial; they need a win to keep their hopes alive in the competition and control their own destiny.

Pakistan faced a tough start, losing their opening match to New Zealand by 60 runs, while India secured a victory over Bangladesh by six wickets.
