Ravi Shastri was recently spotted with his cherished Audi 100, a vehicle he received as an accolade for his outstanding performances during the 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket, marking 40 years since that momentous occasion.

The distinguished former all-rounder and ex-coach of the Indian cricket team utilized his X account to share photographs of this car, recognized as one of Audi’s earliest luxury models introduced to the Indian subcontinent. The vehicle underwent refurbishment and was showcased at the Raymond 100 Autofest car exhibition in Thane, an event organized by Gautam Singhania and his Super Car Club Garage, celebrating the centenary of the Raymond group.

“India's @AudiIN – my baby after 25 years! Thrilled to drive it at the Raymond Auto Fest, thanks to @SinghaniaGautam's incredible initiative to restore #India's vintage gems,” Shastri expressed on his X account, accompanied by a collection of images featuring him with the classic Audi, including moments of him signing the car.

Shastri shares pride 40 years on from victory

The Audi belonging to Ravi Shastri was the highlight of a three-day auto exhibition organized by Gautam Singhania, celebrating India's triumph in the 1985 Benson & Hedges Cup.

Shastri received this vehicle as a reward for his outstanding performance as the player of the tournament during that edition, resulting in memorable images of the Indian team joyfully perched on the hood, trunk, and even atop the car as Shastri drove it around the outfield of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in celebration following India's victory over Pakistan in the final.

"Unbelievable how it still shines like it did 40 years ago when India won it," Shastri remarked in a post on X. He has consistently maintained that the car symbolizes a collective achievement for India, as it was awarded for the team's overall success in 1985.

There exists a special connection between Singhania, Shastri, and this Audi, as Singhania's Super Car Club Garage (SCCG) undertook the restoration of the vehicle in 2022, a project driven by the car's age and rarity. Singhania, who serves as the managing director and chairman of Raymond, has operated the garage as a luxury vehicle enthusiast since 2020.

The event in Thane attracted over 500 luxury vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, making it the largest auto show of its kind ever held in India. The SCCG, in collaboration with Ravi Shastri, also highlighted prominent figures in motorsport such as Mika Hakkinen, Narain Karthikeyan, and Gaurav Gill.
