Rashid Latif’s Fiery Rant: Indirect Dig at ‘Dubai Ke Lunde’ Akram & Waqar

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has indirectly criticized cricket legends, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis for their severe remarks regarding the Mohammad Rizwan-led team following their disappointing exit from the Champions Trophy. Pakistan concluded their participation last month without securing a single victory in the tournament, which they hosted.
Latif's comments followed his caution to former players, particularly those from the 1990s, advising them to distance themselves from Pakistan cricket. During an appearance on Geo News' 'Harna Mana Hai,' the former wicketkeeper-batsman remarked, “It took 17 years for Pakistan to win another World Cup because the players from the 90s did not support Pakistan cricket. If we keep the 90s players away from management and the team, they will strive for victory. They have contributed to Pakistan cricket for a long time, and I believe it is time for them to step back.”
This statement was reiterated during his discussion on the YouTube channel 'Caught Behind,' where he harshly criticized Akram and Waqar, referring to them as "Dubai ke launde (Boys from Dubai)." It is noteworthy that both former cricketers were based in the UAE during the Champions Trophy for broadcasting responsibilities.
"These Dubai boys have caused significant disruption. They are pleased with each other's praise. They fought throughout their careers, which harmed Pakistan cricket....remarkable individuals. Present them with money, and they will do anything," he stated.
When is Pakistan's next assignment?
Following their early exit from the Champions Trophy, Pakistan's cricket team is scheduled to return to the field later this month. They will embark on a tour of New Zealand, where they are set to play five T20 International matches, followed by three One Day Internationals, commencing on March 16.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a revamped T20I squad, which notably excludes Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam. Salman Agha has been appointed as the new captain for the T20 format, with Shadab Khan serving as his vice-captain. In contrast, the ODI team remains largely unchanged, with the notable exception of Shaheen Afridi's absence. Rizwan continues in his role, and Babar retains his position.
