Rajasthan Royals Face Match-Fixing Allegations Against LSG; RCA Ad Hoc Committee Calls for Investigation
9 days ago | 5 Views
Rajasthan Royals faced a narrow defeat by two runs in their latest IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19 in Jaipur. This match marked the debut of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made history as the youngest player to participate in the IPL. Regular captain Sanju Samson was sidelined due to an injury and is not anticipated to return for their next match in Bengaluru.
In the midst of these developments, Rajasthan Royals have found themselves embroiled in a new controversy, facing allegations of match-fixing against LSG. Under the leadership of head coach Rahul Dravid, the team currently occupies the eighth position in the IPL 2025 standings, having accumulated four points from eight matches, which include two victories and six losses.
In an interview with News18 Rajasthan, Jaideep Bihani, convenor of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) ad hoc committee, criticized Rajasthan Royals, intensifying the match-fixing allegations.
RR accused of match-fixing
The convener of the ad hoc committee for the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), established by the government, and Sri Ganganagar MLA Jaideep Bihani has posed several inquiries concerning the Indian Premier League (IPL).
His most striking remark pertained to the recent match involving the Rajasthan Royals. He questioned how the team could lose on their home turf when they needed only a minimal number of runs in the final over.
In the meantime, the BJP MLA criticized the franchise for preventing the RCA from participating in the management of the ongoing IPL 2025 season. He stated, “The state government in Rajasthan has appointed an ad hoc committee, which has now been extended for the fifth time. We ensure that all competitions proceed smoothly. However, as soon as the IPL commenced, the Zila Parishad (district council) assumed control. Initially, the BCCI communicated solely with the RCA regarding the IPL, not the Zila Parishad. Their justification, along with that of RR, is that we lack a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sawai Mansingh Stadium. But if there is no MOU, what does it matter? Are you not compensating the Zila Parishad for each match?”
In pursuit of 181 runs, RR found themselves needing nine runs in the final over, with Dhruv Jurel at the crease and Shimron Hetmyer at the non-striker’s end. However, the mounting pressure affected the duo, as Avesh Khan dismissed Hetmyer on the third delivery, leaving RR requiring six runs from three balls. Avesh maintained the pressure, conceding only three runs in the subsequent three deliveries, resulting in RR finishing at 178/5 after 20 overs.
