Rain Washout on Opening Day Leads to Revised Session Times for India vs Australia Test

4 days ago | 5 Views

Rain disrupted the first day of the Gabba Test between India and Australia, allowing only 13.2 overs to be bowled after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field first in overcast conditions. The match was interrupted by rain twice during the opening session, while Australian openers Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja managed to navigate the new ball. Following the second rain delay, the play did not resume.

For the remaining four days of the Test match, a total of 98 overs is scheduled to be bowled, with play commencing slightly earlier than on Day 1. While Day 1 started at 5:50 AM IST, the subsequent days will begin at 5:20 AM IST, contingent on weather conditions.

The scheduled close of play for each of the remaining days is set for 12:50 PM IST, although there is the possibility of extending play by an additional half hour if the full quota of 98 overs has not been completed.

Additionally, the session timings have been revised, with the first session being extended beyond the usual duration. However, forecasts indicate the likelihood of rain on all remaining days, which may lead to further delays.

The revised session timings are as follows:

First session: 5:20 AM to 7:50 AM IST.

Second session: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM IST.

Third session: 10:50 AM IST to 12:50 PM IST. (This may be extended until 1:20 PM if the complete quota of overs has not been bowled.)

As the teams approached the third Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, both India and Australia had significant stakes in the match. With overcast conditions prevailing, Rohit Sharma chose to take advantage of the weather and opted to have Australia bat first.

Despite this, Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja successfully negotiated the new ball, and after 13.2 overs, the score for the hosts stood at 28 without loss. The two batsmen will continue their innings on Day 2 of the Brisbane Test.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep struggled to make an impact on the wicket, leading to criticism of Rohit Sharma's decision to bowl first.

Following their 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide, India made two significant alterations to their playing XI, introducing Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep in place of Ravichandran Ashwin and Harshit Rana

Conversely, Australia made a predictable move by reinstating Josh Hazlewood, who returned from a side strain, replacing Scott Boland in the lineup.

With the series tied at 1-1, it remains to be seen how both India and Australia will manage their composure in this pivotal Brisbane Test.
