RR’s Chase Meltdown: Royals Repeat Costly Errors as RCB Clinch Thriller

It occurred against the Delhi Capitals. It was repeated against the Lucknow Super Giants. It struck again against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Rajasthan Royals made a mistake in their run chase for three games in a row. They were able to locate and push the self-destruct button numerous times from their commanding position in the pursuit. The outcome was a hat-trick of losses in the 2025 IPL. After another bizarre run chase, former cricketers Simon Katich and Pommie Mbangwa blasted the RR batting lineup.

With 17 runs required to win, RR missed the chase when Shubham Dubey, the last recognizable hitter, was out on the first ball of the 20th over, according to former Australia batter Simon Katich. On commentary, Katich stated that "RR is massacring the chase."

Nobody would believe that light may strike, but it did for RR, and only they can explain the reasons for the defeat, said Mbangwa, a former Zimbabwe cricketer who was in the commentary box with Katich.

"Three times struck by lightning. Despite being on the verge of winning, they inexplicably fell short. They are unable to articulate it to anyone else. "They were unable to exorcise the spirits of the previous two matches," Mbangwa stated.

As a result of the loss, RR are no longer in the running for a spot in the playoffs in the current season of the league. They have lost seven out of nine games.

How Hazlewood triggered RR collapse in 19th over

Coming With RR needing 18 off 12 deliveries to bowl, Hazlewood (4/33) took two wickets in as many balls while only giving up one run, as the visitors were held to 194 for nine in their pursuit of 206 in front of a packed Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's (49 off 19 balls) brilliant innings at the top of the lineup and Dhruv Jurel's (47 off 34 balls) valiant effort were all for naught as RR lost their fifth consecutive game due to Hazlewood's heroics.

Following a 95-run partnership for the second wicket between RCB star batters Virat Kohli (70 off 42 balls) and Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 27 balls), the middle overs were dominated by this pair.

With Jaiswal and 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi accumulating 52 runs in 27 balls before Bhuvneshwar Kumar's knuckle ball bowled the latter after the youngster went for one too many, having hit two sixes in his 16-run knock, RR's start was terrible. The target was 206.

Suryavanshi's excellent work was continued by Jaiswal, who hit Hazlewood for two fours and a six, but the Australian retaliated with the final delivery of the same over, dismissing Jaiswal for 49.

With two wickets down, RR was in a good position to chase down the target thanks to cameos from captain Riyan Parag (22 off 10) and Dhruv Jurel (47 off 34), but similar to how they had failed to score nine runs in the last over against LSG, Rajasthan was unable to manage 18 runs off 12 balls despite having five wickets remaining.
