RR vs CSK: Will Riyan Parag Avoid a Third Straight Loss as Captain?
2 days ago | 5 Views
The second game of the double-header weekend in the IPL features two iconic franchises with a complicated history facing off in Guwahati. Both the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings have had a rough start to the new IPL season, with RR losing their first two matches and Chennai suffering a heavy defeat against RCB after a lackluster batting display.
Rajasthan really needs to find some momentum, especially with Riyan Parag stepping in as captain for the absent Sanju Samson. What’s worrying for the Royals is how one-sided their losses have been. They first gave up 286 runs to SRH and then saw KKR chase down their target in under 18 overs. Despite having talented batsmen, the Royals have yet to make an impact, and their relatively weak bowling lineup has been exploited by opposing teams.
On the flip side, CSK's batting has been inconsistent, nearly fumbling a chase of around 150 runs against MI before crumbling against RCB in just two overs. As they head out of their home ground for the first time, they won’t have much time to regroup before their match in Assam. This could actually work in CSK's favor, as they tend to be a team that prefers to act first and talk later.
When it comes to the changes these two teams are considering, RR will likely focus on their bowling strategies, while CSK needs to address their batting lineup. CSK's middle order has been surprisingly weak, with Deepak Hooda and Sam Curran not performing well in their roles lately. Shivam Dube hasn't found his rhythm either, so it might be time for a shake-up. The challenge is that their bench doesn't offer much quality; Devon Conway is their best option, but he's primarily an opener. If they bring him in, it could push Rahul Tripathi down to the fourth spot, which would make the batting order top-heavy. CSK has some tough decisions ahead.
For RR, Jofra Archer's performance is a significant worry. He was signed as their top fast bowler, but his injury history and declining speed have made that a gamble that hasn't paid off yet. Tushar Deshpande and Sandeep Sharma round out the pace attack, but they don't instill much confidence either. It might be time to give South African teenager Kwena Mapheka a shot to see if he can bring something fresh to the team.
Ultimately, both teams need to focus on execution and rely on their high-caliber players and experience to fill the gaps that have emerged so far.
RR probable lineup: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (captain), Nitish Rana, Riyan Parag (captain), Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shubham Dubey, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Sharma
CSK probable lineup: Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, Matheesa Pathirana
