RCB’s Hourglass: Is Time Up for Padikkal and Livingstone?
25 days ago | 5 Views
Three weeks into the IPL season, the historic city of Jaipur is set to host its inaugural match of the tournament. The much-anticipated royal rivalry will unfold as the Rajasthan Royals take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru under the intense summer sun at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Both teams are coming off disappointing defeats; what adjustments will they implement to regain their winning momentum?
RCB faced a masterclass from KL Rahul in their recent match against the Delhi Capitals, resulting in yet another home loss in the IPL. However, they can take solace in their strong away performance, having secured victories in all three of their away games this season. Although RCB's batting faltered against DC, there were positive aspects to note: they enjoyed a remarkable start and a strong finish to their innings, but struggled against the skilled spinners of DC.
Fans of RCB have begun to advocate for a shift away from the underperforming Liam Livingstone, suggesting that the promising Jacob Bethell be given an opportunity. Bethell could slot into the number three position, allowing the team to reconsider their reliance on Devdutt Padikkal, who has yet to find his form this season. This change could pave the way for Manoj Bhandage or Swastik Chikara to contribute further down the batting order.
For the Rajasthan Royals, making changes is more challenging. Although they have managed to secure a couple of wins, their performances have lacked conviction. The absence of Wanindu Hasaranga in their last match due to personal reasons has left their spin attack somewhat lacking, while their batting remains inconsistent. Yashasvi Jaiswal has yet to make a significant impact in this tournament, but he is overdue for a strong showing: will the familiar conditions in Jaipur provide the boost he needs?
RR appears to be a team poised for a successful streak if they can identify the right conditions. Captain Sanju Samson demonstrated solid form prior to his dismissal against GT, and Riyan Parag also showed promise. Although they fell short of the target, their batting lineup possesses sufficient quality to instill a reasonable level of confidence in the team.
Furthermore, with Jofra Archer seemingly nearing his peak performance, RR is optimistic about securing a victory in their home opener. They will require contributions from players like Nitish Rana and Tushar Deshpande, as the bowling attack raises concerns regarding wicket-taking, particularly in the absence of Hasaranga. Nevertheless, RCB will face a challenging match, especially if they allow RR's top order to establish a rhythm.
