RCB Throws Shade: 'No MI Was Harmed' Jab Sparks Pre-IPL 2025 Storm

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have ignited some excitement ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season opener, seemingly taking a lighthearted jab at the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI). With the eagerly awaited tournament kicking off on March 22, where RCB will face off against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Eden Gardens, the playful exchanges between the franchises have already commenced.
Recently, RCB appointed Rajat Patidar as their captain for the upcoming season, following the release of former captain Faf du Plessis prior to the auction. Patidar received well-wishes from his predecessors, including Virat Kohli and Faf, facilitating a seamless transition in leadership.
In a video shared by the franchise, influencer Danish Sait, portraying the beloved character ‘RCB insider’ Mr. Nags, took the opportunity to jest about MI, who encountered considerable criticism last season regarding their captaincy change.
In the video, Mr. Nags subtly referenced the captaincy controversy surrounding the Mumbai Indians. He asked Patidar, "So, Rajat, you’ve become captain, and all former RCB skippers have given you their endorsement. Virat messaged you, Faf messaged you. Do you think other teams should have adopted a similar approach when announcing their captaincy?"
Patidar replied, "I’m sorry, I haven’t been following what’s happening." Mr. Nags, with a playful smile, seized the opportunity to interpret the response humorously, stating, “Oh, so innocent, Rajat. You really don’t know? Then why are you smiling? Essentially, he said 'MI nahi janta ‘MI.’”
This clever wordplay, which echoed ‘main nahi janta’ (I don’t know) while seemingly alluding to MI, was enough to create a buzz on social media.

The MI fans were furious at the video:
Mumbai Indians faced significant backlash during IPL 2024 following the appointment of Hardik Pandya as captain, taking over from Rohit Sharma. This decision was met with disapproval from MI fans, who consistently booed Pandya throughout the season, voicing their dissatisfaction with the franchise's choice.
In IPL 2025, RCB will compete against MI on April 7 in Mumbai. Historically, the Mumbai Indians have had the upper hand in their matchups with RCB, securing victory in 19 of their 33 encounters in the IPL.
