RCB Receives Collective Support; DC Depends on Trio: Jitesh Sharma Speaks Candidly Ahead of Crucial Match

Jitesh Sharma, a batter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, asserts that his team possesses a distinct advantage over Delhi Capitals as they prepare for their upcoming IPL 2024 match. In a pre-match statement, Jitesh highlighted RCB’s recent winning streak and the well-rounded contributions from the team as significant factors bolstering their confidence.

“We have the upper hand because we have played away games and triumphed in challenging matches,” Jitesh remarked. RCB has made an impressive start to IPL 2025, securing victories against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match at Eden Gardens, followed by wins against two formidable teams, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, at home.

Although Delhi Capitals remain the only unbeaten team in the league with three consecutive wins, Jitesh candidly expressed concerns about their reliance on a limited number of players.

“Moreover, our batting lineup is strong, with contributions from everyone. In contrast, I believe DC is depending heavily on three key players. This will present a good challenge,” he noted.

According to the wicketkeeper-batter, RCB’s revival is attributed to their approach of “smart cricket.” He elaborated that the team’s strategic planning has enabled them to transition from reckless aggression to a more controlled style of play.

“We are playing smart cricket rather than just attacking every bowler indiscriminately. We understand each player’s strengths, and the team management has assigned us specific roles. For instance, I will focus on certain bowlers while others will handle different ones,” he explained.

“We are not attempting to dominate without thought. It’s not as if we are relying on any magical formula. We are simply working to execute our strategy effectively.”

Jitesh on Bumrah and Karthik's role

Jitesh, who faced Jasprit Bumrah recently, was full of praise for the Mumbai Indians pacer. “I felt as if he had just come back from the ICC Champions Trophy. Bumrah is so accurate. He was properly fit and he has done proper tests. He is on the peak right now,” he said.

The 31-year-old has looked assured with the bat at RCB and credits his performances to the team's mentor, Dinesh Karthik.

“It's been a great journey till now because in the off-season, I really worked hard with him. I think whichever shot that I am playing right now is the replica of what he used to play. He is trying to create a new player in me.

“He believes in me that I can play all around the circle — 360 angles... I am really enjoying myself in a new role,” Jitesh said.
