R Ashwin Remembers Corbin Bosch's IPL Days After His Stellar Test Debut Against Pakistan

Corbin Bosch had an incredible debut for South Africa on the first day of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan in Centurion on Thursday. The 30-year-old made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with his very first ball, dismissing Pakistan's opener Shan Masood.
After his impressive start, Bosch received congratulations from Ravichandran Ashwin, who pointed out that Bosch was part of the IPL team Rajasthan Royals just three years back. He stepped in for the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile during IPL 2022 for a fee of ₹20 Lakh. Ashwin took to X to share, “Corbin Bosch was with RR three years ago and was always striving for excellence. He’s off to a great start with the bat, but let’s not forget he averages over 40 with the bat in first-class cricket.”
Corbin Bosch's amazing first performance
Bosch kicked off his spell with a full delivery outside off stump, which Masood could only manage to edge, sending the ball flying to Marco Jansen at gully for a catch. His next victim was Saud Shakeel, and that one needed a little help from Ultra Edge. Bosch bowled a short ball angled down leg, and Shakeel went for a pull but missed, allowing wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne to snag it to his right. Ultra Edge picked up a tiny spike just as the ball was near Shakeel's glove.
Bosch's third wicket came when Aamir Jamal inside-edged one back onto the stumps. He then dismissed Naseem Shah for a two-ball duck. Bosch ended up with figures of 4/63, helping to bowl Pakistan out for 211 in 57.3 overs. In reply, South Africa finished Day 1 at 82/3, trailing by 129 runs. Aiden Markram (47*) and captain Temba Bavuma (4*) will continue their innings on Day 2. On the first day, South Africa lost Tony de Zorzi (2), Ryan Rickleton (8), and Tristan Stubbs (9).
Everyone will be keeping an eye on Bosch as he gears up for the SA20 2025 season, where he’ll be playing for Paarl Royals.
