R Ashwin Breaks His Silence on YouTube Controversy Following Stephen Fleming's Remarks; Takes Bold Steps for IPL 2025

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin made a bold decision on Sunday amid a controversy surrounding the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The seasoned bowler announced that he would refrain from posting any videos related to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on his YouTube channel for the duration of the IPL season.
The controversy arose during a recent CSK match when Prasanna Agoram, a former South African cricketer and analyst for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), criticized CSK's choice to field Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad over more experienced players like Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. This commentary was featured in a video on Ashwin's YouTube channel, which subsequently led to significant backlash, prompting him to remove the video.
Following CSK's 25-run defeat to Delhi Capitals at home on Saturday, coach Stephen Fleming was questioned about the video and dismissed it as "irrelevant." He stated, "I have no idea. I didn't even know he had a channel, so I don't know that stuff. That's irrelevant."
Ashwin's defiant action
In light of recent controversies, Ashwin, who concluded his international cricket career in December of the previous year, shared an extensive message on his YouTube channel announcing that his team would refrain from covering any aspects related to the Chennai team during the IPL.
"In light of the discussions that have taken place on this platform over the past week, we wish to be cautious about potential interpretations and have decided to withdraw from covering CSK matches, including both previews and reviews, for the remainder of this season," Ashwin's statement indicated.
"We appreciate the variety of viewpoints presented on our shows and remain dedicated to maintaining a conversation that aligns with the integrity and mission of the platform we have created. The opinions shared by our guests do not necessarily represent Ashwin's personal views. We are grateful to all who engage thoughtfully with the essence of the show," it further stated.
CSK is scheduled to play against Punjab Kings on Tuesday in Chandigarh, followed by a match against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at Eden Gardens on Friday.
