India's captain Rohit Sharma appears to have reinstated a winning mentality within the national team during major tournaments, as evidenced by their consecutive victories in the last two ICC championships. Additionally, Rohit remains one of the most successful captains in the IPL, which explains why many players express a desire to play under his leadership. A recent example of this sentiment comes from Shashank Singh, a rising star of the Punjab Kings.

“Everyone mentions that he [Rohit] fully supports his players and provides them with ample opportunities,” Shashank remarked during an interview on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel. "He is an astute captain, and his humorous one-liners on the field are quite entertaining. If I had to choose one captain to play under, it would be Rohit Sharma. He hails from Bombay, and I have batted alongside him once, although he wasn't the captain at that time. I aspire to play under his guidance."

Shashank was one of only two players retained by the Punjab Kings, alongside Prabhsimran Singh. This marks a significant turnaround for the 33-year-old, who was inadvertently acquired by the franchise during the auction for the 2024 IPL. He emerged as a standout performer in the 2024 season, amassing 354 runs at a strike rate of 164.65 while serving as a designated finisher for the team.

The upcoming 2025 season will be just his third in the IPL. “I am reconnecting with the coaches and players following last year's IPL. We have a strong team. I am strategizing on performing well on the Chandigarh pitch, especially since we struggled in our home games last year,” Shashank stated in an interview with PTI.
