One of the major challenges faced by today’s cricketers is managing social media, especially dealing with sudden fame and online trolls. While many choose to step back from these platforms to concentrate on their careers, Punjab Kings player Shashank Singh shared that keeping an eye on Instagram during the IPL months is crucial for him. He even mentioned a tweet from the iconic Sachin Tendulkar about him that he has read "a thousand times."

In a recent episode of Punjab Kings' YouTube series, 'Kandid with Kings', Shashank explained that the two and a half months of IPL are his prime opportunity to gain recognition and engage with social media conversations. As a result, he monitors his Instagram followers and the messages he receives. However, after receiving advice from team captain Shreyas Iyer to limit his social media use, he has started setting a timer for his screen time and is working to adhere to it.

"If you had asked me this three years ago, I would have said I check Instagram first to see my follower count. But over time, I realized that if I kept that up, it would hurt my cricket career. I used to focus solely on my follower count, but now I also check my messages to see if I'm trending. The two and a half months of IPL are crucial for my future. It feels great to be in the spotlight, but I’m trying to cut down on my screen time. I talked to Shreyas Iyer over breakfast recently, and he mentioned he had taken a break from Instagram, and I noticed the positive changes in him. I set a limit of 45 minutes for myself, but I often hit 'Later' when the reminder pops up," he said.

I went through Sachin's tweet a thousand times

In 2022, while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shashank made an incredible catch near the boundary to get KKR's Ajinkya Rahane out. This amazing play left Sachin completely impressed, prompting him to tweet: "Catching on the boundary line keeps getting better and better. Outstanding catch by @shashank2191!" Reflecting on that moment, Shashank mentioned he had read the tweet "1000 times" and even shared it on WhatsApp for all his friends to see.

He said, "When former cricketers I admire say something nice, it definitely shows up in my social media feed, and it feels great. Sachin Tendulkar once tweeted about a catch I made for another team, tagging me in it. I read that tweet 1000 times and shared it on WhatsApp for everyone to check out."
