Pujara Praises KL Rahul’s Comeback at DC: “Not the Most Fluid, But Free From Past Baggage”

KL Rahul is really making a comeback in T20 cricket! He delivered another match-winning performance for Delhi Capitals on Wednesday in Lucknow. The wicketkeeper-batter has been on fire this season, helping DC stay strong in the playoff race. Returning to his old stomping ground, he wowed the crowd with a record-breaking 57*, tying DC with Gujarat Titans at 12 points each. He also hit a milestone of 5000 IPL runs during his innings, becoming the fastest to reach that mark in just 130 innings.
Rahul spent three years with LSG, leading them to the playoffs in their first two seasons, but they struggled in 2024, finishing seventh. This disappointing performance strained his relationship with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, who was seen publicly scolding Rahul after a loss in a viral video.
Since joining Delhi, however, Rahul has turned things around, consistently performing with 323 runs in seven innings this season.
Veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara praised Rahul for not dwelling on the past and just enjoying his game right now.
"Just move on, don’t carry any baggage from the past. That’s a good thing. KL is a mature player. He’s been batting well across formats in the last couple of years," Pujara shared on ESPNcricinfo's TimeOut.
"He’s focused on enjoying his batting and staying in the moment instead of worrying about what went wrong with LSG. Moving on is key, and it’ll help him perform well for DC and the Indian team, as he’s become a reliable player lately."
KL Rahul seems much more grown-up these days
Rahul has really solidified Delhi's middle-order, giving them the ability to manage the game whether they're batting first or second. Pujara thinks Rahul has really stepped up this season and is showing a lot of maturity. "He seems much more mature now and really knows his game. This season, we've seen a different side of KL Rahul. He wasn't as smooth at the start against LSG, but he found his rhythm later on," he mentioned.
